Pro Football Hall of Fame Offers Ultimate Autograph Set
Even in today's market, a single set of football cards that costs $5,000 is something most collectors wouldn't even consider buying. But what if that set contained autographs from over 100 of the best football players of all time?
That's exactly what the Pro Football Hall of Fame has put together with its set of Bronze Bust Collector Cards. So named because each card has a picture of the actual bust each player receives upon enshrinement, the set features all 253 men honored at Canton, including this year's class.
The print run is limited to just 150 hand-numbered sets, which would make it scarce enough by itself. What really should raise eyebrows, though, is the fact that almost half the cards are autographed.
The checklist of signatures is like a "who's who" of football history at every position. There are quarterbacks Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana and Dan Marino. Running backs Barry Sanders, Gayle Sayers and Eric Dickerson all signed for the set, as did receivers Lance Alworth, Steve Largent and Art Monk.
Defenders are well-represented too, with Deacon Jones, Ronnie Lott and Lawrence Taylor all inking up. And since coaches are such a big part of football history, it's nice to see the likes of Don Shula and Marv Levy included.
Every set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Hall of Fame. The cards are displayed in a binder made especially for the set that features the Hall of Fame logo.
The price tag means the Bronze Bust cards aren't for everyone, but getting 120 autographs for less than $50 on average - many of which could go for triple-digit prices individually - means it actually is a pretty good deal for those who can fit it into their budgets.
