Montana Police Produce Their Own Brand of Trading Cards
Police in Missoula, Montana have produced a special set of trading cards to give to students of a local elementary school. The cards include youth-oriented tips on street, Internet, fire and driving safety and feature the police department's K9 officer, a forest fire, and a host of other pictures.
Police say the cards give kids the opportunity to build strong, positive relationships with local law enforcement officers. They also say the cards educate, entertain, and help kids make good choices.
"The alcohol trading card, it mentions that if you were to get and MIP it could cost you up to $400 and that is something the older children will definitely take into consideration" explained Missoula Police Department Volunteer Coordinator Jane Stoll.
The police department got the idea of making the trading cards from similar efforts that have taken place in other cities across the nation. The best way for children to get the cards is through their schools, but they also can get them at the police department.
