Morphy Auctions Launches Sports Memorabilia Department
Morphy Auctions has announced that they're adding a sports memorabilia department to their current auction lineup. Although they have been selling sports memorabilia in their general and toy auctions for several years, this marks the first time that a separate regular auction will be in place.
The current chief operating officer of Morphy's, Tom Sage Jr., has been appointed to run the new department. Sage is not a newcomer to the hobby world. He has has been selling cards since 1977.
A strong emphasis will be placed on authenticity. According to Sage, "Buyers expect, and will receive, letters or certificates of authenticity when they buy game-used or autographed items from Morphy's. We will be using the services of some of the sports memorabilia industry's top authenticators in vetting the merchandise we sell."
Morphy Auctions plans to conduct semiannual auctions from all the major sports with a focus on Major League and collegiate game-used jerseys and apparel, as well as sports equipment, rings and jewelry.
The first sports auction is slated for the fall and the next will be held in the spring of 2012. Consignments are being accepted for the inaugural fall sports auction. Contact Tom Sage at 717-335-4571 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
The Denver, Pennsylvania auction house traces its roots back to 1997 and has grown itself over the years into Morphy Auctions. More information about the auction house can be found at their website.
