Michigan Couple Pulls Rare Prime Cuts Signature
Michigan Resident Tim Tyler has collected sports cards and sports memorabilia for over 20 years. Over the years he has had his fair share of exciting pulls. Nothing, however, could prepare him for what he found during a recent box break of 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts IV Baseball Cards.
Tyler and his wife, Rakael, debated whether or not to buy a box of 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts IV for several minutes, eventually deciding to go forward with the purchase, which they made at Legends Sports and Games in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tyler eagerly tore through the sleek black packaging and opened the Prime Cuts Box. Upon opening the cigar styled box, he found himself staring face to face with a mint condition Babe Ruth Cut Signature Card, Serial #'ed 1/1.
Tyler said he buys boxes of sports cards on a regular basis - particularly of high end brands like Prime Cuts.
Tyler told the Grand Rapids Press during a recent interview with the newspaper,"I had a lot of interesting words going through my mind when I saw the card. I had to look at it twice to make sure it was real. Rakael really didn't know what was going on at first but, when she realized it, she was very happy."
Lou Brown, the owner of Legends Sports and Games, weighed in on his customer's huge pull, saying it was, "the best pull we've had in our store, for sure."
Brown continued, "I've seen Jordan rookies, other cut signatures and some cool game used stuff come out of packs. And I've seen stuff from Shoeless Joe Jackson and other game used Ruth and Lou Gehrig cards and jerseys, but this was pretty sweet."
Tyler put the card up on eBay for a brief period of time in order to gauge the level of interest in his newly plucked 1/1 Babe Ruth Cut Auto. Experts estimate the value of the card to be at least $10,000.
Tyler continued, "The card is locked away for safekeeping and I don't have any intention of selling it. It's a great thrill. I'm not a real excitable person, but I didn't stop shaking for about a day."
