Fighting the Baseball Offseason Blues

Many card collectors easily jump from baseball to football and hockey season. There are even basketball card collectors out there. However, there are also a significant portion of us that are strictly one-sport collectors, including myself.

Baseball is the only sport that I collect cards. So, how do we cope with the off-season blues. The hot stove could only carry us for so long.

Here's a list of ways to keep busy until pitchers and catchers report.

  • Organize your collection: This is an on-going project, even during the season. But the winter is a perfect time to get most of the collection organized for the cards that will come out in January.
  • Fill in the holes: Card shows and eBay are great this time of year because cards can be caught at a steal. For many casual collectors, out of sight means out of mind. You can get cards cheaper than you could in August.
  • Sleep: Yeah, I like catching up on sleep during the winter.
  • Send out those trades! I'm not the only one that gets lazy on sending out trades. Now, is the time. You're stuck in the house with the flu or a cold. TV shows are going into reruns until after the holidays. Get those trades out already.
  • Stare out the window. When nothing else is left, just wait for that first blade of grass to come up for the spring.

There are so many things to do during the off-season.

How do you keep busy?
