It has been 5 years now since Comedic Legend Bob Hope passed away. After careful consideration, his children decided that it was time to sell their father's extensive memorabilia collection. All proceeds from the sale of his memorabilia collection, valued at $200,000 and $400,000, will benefit US veterans by way of the Bob and Dolores Hope Charitable Foundation.
Born in 1903, Hope and his family came to the United States from England when he was 4. He got his start in vaudeville and later became a major personality on radio and television.
"He and the country grew up (together)," his daughter Linda Hope told Reuters. "There was no electricity when dad was starting out his life, and the Wright brothers made their first flight in 1903."
Julien's Auctions, the firm picked to coordinate the sale of the collection, has been tasked with selling a total of 680 items from Hope's Personal Memorabilia Collection. The items being sold at the upcoming auction include a fake dollar bill with Arnold Palmer's picture on it which has been autographed by the golf legend, Hope's golf shoes with Thai-style flames running along the sides, a football signed by college Notre Dame's 1983 Football Team, and a set of knives and forks previously owned by Britain's Queen Elizabeth which Hope purchased at a 1952 charity event.
