Lego Dirk Nowitzki Statue Unveiled at Legoland in Texas
The tributes for the newly crowned World Champion Dallas Mavericks continue to pour in. Legoland Discovery Center in Grapevine, Texas recently unveiled a seven-foot addition to the center that pays homage to Finals MVP, Dirk Nowitzki. The replica is made of more than 25,000 Lego blocks and took nearly 3,000 hours to build.
A replica of the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy was built to keep the Lego Nowitzki company. The 25-pound trophy took an extra 20 hours to build and required approximately 4,000 bricks. Visitors can pay to pose for pictures holding the trophy replica.
The Nowitzki Lego statue was originally built for the Legoland in Germany in 2003 but arrangements were made to have it shipped to Texas after the Mavericks' win. Although Nowitzki has not visited his blockhead twin stationed near Dallas, he did visit the statue when it was still housed in Germany.
