Gilbert Arenas Adds $25,000 Piece to his Memorabilia Collection, Helps Out a Good Cause
The Washington Wizards have confirmed that NBA Superstar and avid memorabilia collector Gilbert Arenas has donated $25,000 to the team's charitable division known as Wizards Care, in exchange for a unique piece of memorabilia signed by the President that was to be auctioned off.
President Barack Obama attended the Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls game at the Verizon Center on February 27, 2009. Energized by the attendance of the President who sat in Seat Number 2 Gold North AAA, the Wizards soundly defeated the Bulls by a final score of 113 - 90. Following the game, Obama autographed his seat for use in a future fundraiser. Obama's signature can be found across the chair's backrest just below the Washington Wizards logo.
The Wizards and Wizards Care set Wednesday, July 15 as the date to open bidding on the autographed seat to coincide with the thrill of President Obama throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at Major League Baseball's All-Star game last week. Arenas placed a bid that surpassed Washington's target for the autographed Obama chair just as the online auction was about to get rolling.
