Randy Moss Retires and the Impact on His Cards
Unique and never dull, Randy Moss has decided to call an end to his career that was often overshadowed by his antics. Moss holds many NFL records, including most touchdowns in a season for a wide receiver and most seasons with 17 or more touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl seven times and ends his career with 153 touchdowns. Moss was also just shy of 15,000 yards and 1,000 receptions.
Moss was always popular with collectors and his off-field persona only fueled his notoriety. From his free fall on draft day to accusations throughout his career that he lost focus, Moss was normally a good source for drama. I will always remember a bit of dialogue from his Minnesota days. A reporter asked Moss if he would be paying an NFL fine with a check. Moss' now infamous response was, "Straight cash, homey."
There is a slim chance that injuries in the preseason might pull him back into the game, but it's unlikely. Moss spent a rocky 2010 season with three different teams, including an eight-game stint with the Titans where he was nonexistent. At the age of 34, his best days are behind him.
In spite of ending on a low note, Moss brought great excitement to the game and was one of the better athletes to grace the field. His retirement will likely lead to a bump in interest for Moss rookie cards and memorabilia, at least in the short-term.
