Is LeBron James Headed to the NFL?
Due to the ongoing NBA lockout, players have been forced to look elsewhere to occupy their time and keep in shape. While many are looking overseas, others have spent the summer and fall jetting across the United States to take part in Pro-Ams, all-star games and charity basketball matches.
Surprisingly, the normally vocal and polarizing LeBron James has largely kept quiet. He has participated in a few basketball games and was present at the most recent CBA negotiations, but, until now, has kept himself out of the headlines.
James has long talked about joining an NFL team and recently inquired online about the league's free agent deadline. Although he was joking, several cool items have already emerged. It started with Pete Carroll, the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, who was communicating with James on Twitter. He tweeted a custom Seahawks jersey with LeBron on the back as part of his attempt to "recruit" him. Now, Panini has gotten in on the excitement with a mock-up of an autographed quad-patch card and a second autographed card with an over-sized patch of James in a Miami Dolphins uniform.
Before collectors get too excited, Upper Deck's agreement with James would keep him from having autographed cards with Panini even if he did switch sports. While the idea is merely the work of fiction, at this point, it gives fans the chance to wonder, "What if?"
