“Hometown Heroes” Inserts Honor Players Who Give Back
Athletes are not always portrayed in the most flattering light. They are often viewed as millionaire divas who care more about themselves than their team or the fans. Obviously, this is not the case for many NFL players. Panini is highlighting the charitable side of several players in a new insert set for the upcoming 2011 Certified Football. The "Hometown Heroes" insert series celebrates 34 players and their community contributions.
On the back of each card is a feel-good story of how they're giving back. One such example is Antonio Gates. His card back reads “Come Christmas time, Chargers players venture out into the San Diego community to spread holiday cheer. For the past couple of seasons, Gates has organized and hosted the Shop with a Charger event, providing 50 homeless, neglected and abused children with a night of food, games and shopping sprees."
Through their blog, Panini has released images of ten cards in the set, including Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson, Antonio Gates, Asante Samuel, Brandon Meriweather, Brian Urlacher, Calvin Johnson, Charles Woodson, Eli Manning and Larry Fitzgerald.
