Featured Hobby Blog: Wax Heaven
Despite his retirement from regular blogging a couple of years ago, Mario Alejandro's infamous Wax Heaven deserves its documented place in Featured Blogs. The amount of daily traffic and the level of reader engagement the site received redefined the hobby blog landscape forever and set the new standard for what a sports card blog could be. Influential in the creation of several other blogs, at its peak, Wax Heaven often exceeded traditional media outlets for sports card-related news. Even the trading card manufacturers took notice of the blog's influence in the hobby, making Wax Heaven one of the first blogs to receive review product from some of the hobby's top manufacturers. This opened a whole new audience and format for them to promote their products. Not long after Mario decided to pack it in at Wax Heaven, the site was sold and has since been re-branded. However, an archive of the classic Wax Heaven can still be read.
After taking some time away, Mario has started Wax Morgue, although it hasn't had regular posts in some time. On the new site, Mario has continued to ponder the enigma of Jose Canseco and focus on hobby oddities.
