Chicago Cubs Offer Exclusive 2013 Topps Archives Set in Stadium Giveaway

Overview

The Chicago Cubs released a massive 82-card set of Topps Archives baseball cards during a four-part 2013 stadium giveaway.

Featuring past a present players, exclusive sets will be handed out at four games. All giveaways happen on Fridays. Each of the four sets is limited to 10,000 fans.

The Cubs tweeted a picture of an uncut sheet. It shows cards featuring lots of past Topps baseball designs, including 1972, 1982, 1987 and 1990. Among the players shown were Kerry Wood, Billy Williams, Anthony Rizzo, Greg Maddux and Ernie Banks. Several players were shown with multiple designs.

Cards were handed out at the following games:

  • Friday, May 3 vs. Cincinnati Reds
  • Friday, July 5 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Friday, August 2 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Friday, August 30 vs. Philadelphia Phillies

In addition to the basic versions, there are special cards for season ticket holders. These have a silver foil stamp on the front with the Cubs logo and read "Season Ticket Holder."

Ryan's collecting origins began with winter bike rides to the corner store, tossing a couple of quarters onto the counter and peddling home with a couple packs of O-Pee-Chee hockey in his pocket.   2. im looking for set #1 and #4 (when it comes out) I have set #2 and will have set #3 unopened to trade or will buy them if not willing to trade!

  3. I happened to be at that Game and there were only about 8,000 fans. Saw a Guy with a Big bag sack paying $3 to $5 for the set…The Bag was half fun by the First Inning. He was selling them on Ebay between $12 – $20 each.
