Check Your Trash – 2013 Allen & Ginter Delivers More Surprises
Today, Cardboard Connection contributor, Brent Williams, made a major discovery while opening several boxes of the new 2013 Topps Allen & Ginter product. Randomly inserted into the cardboard of the product's lid are cello-wrapped 1/1 Glossy Parallels of the 350-card base set. In essence, the lids themselves are "rip" lids. The always quirky and eclectic set is never short of surprises, but this may be the biggest yet. In regards to checking the box, Williams advises, "Best way to do it is slide your hand thru the side. If it is glued no card. If its not glued on one side then BINGO!"
It's hard to imagine the number of cards that may have already been thrown away and lost forever. However, knowing how popular the annual release of the set is, one can only imagine that "dozens" is probably a realistic estimate. Collectors are quickly scouring their discarded boxes and several of these rare cards have already started showing up online. Currently, there is no official word from Topps and many are wondering if this is the first year Topps has done this.
Here's what the hidden cards look like. As you can see from the image below, Brent Williams had unfortunate luck when he discovered the first card with his box cutter.
