Breaking Down the 2013-14 Panini Prizm Basketball Parallel Rainbow

Breaking Down the 2013-14 Panini Prizm Basketball Parallel Rainbow

2013-14 Panini Prizm Basketball is back for a second year, looking to build off a strong debut. One of the major reasons why last year's set was so popular was the Refractor-like Prizm parallels. While they're widely available in baseball and football thanks to the Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome lines, there hasn't been much like it for hoops collectors.

Collectors looking to build the Prizm rainbow of their favorite player are going to have to do some work with 2013-14 Panini Prizm Basketball. The total number of parallel sets has jumped from three to 11. Not only that, but the number of pack types has grown, each with its own mix of Prizms. Last year there were hobby packs and retail packs. Now there are hobby, retail, hobby jumbo, retail multi-packs, Walmart and Target packs.

The Prizm brand has evolved a lot since it debuted with 2012-13 Prizm Basketball. As Panini has expanded to different sports, new wrinkles have been added. The biggest for 2013-14 Panini Prizm Basketball are the Red, White and Blue Mosaic Prizms. These patriotic parallels use three colors instead of one, giving it a unique look that hasn't been seen in other sports or from other manufacturers.

As far as the secondary market goes, Gold Prizms are once again seeing lots of interest. Numbered to just 10, the hobby-exclusive inserts are generating a lot of buzz and high bids. And it's not just the rookies. The first LeBron James and Kobe Bryant Gold cards to sell on eBay both went for more than $500, not bad for a new card that doesn't have an autograph or any memorabilia.

Below you can see a full break down of all 11 of the 2013-14 Panini Prizm Basketball Prizm parallels including images and what types of packs you need to find them.
