Mike Trout to Make MLB Debut
Mike Trout will be making his major league debut for the Angels Friday night in Anaheim. Trout, only 19-years old, will be the youngest player in the major leagues since Felix Hernandez in 2005. Trout earned several honors and put up very impressive numbers during his short stint in the minors. He was named the top prospect in baseball by MLB.com and was second on Baseball America's list behind Bryce Harper. Trout was the 2010 Minor League Player of Year and Midwest League Most Valuable Player for Class-A Cedar Rapids. Through 74 games this season with Double-A Arkansas, Trout hit an impressive .330 with nine home runs, 11 triples, 27 RBIs and 28 stolen bases.
Trout has been compared to Mickey Mantle for his ability to hit for power, average and his speed on the base paths. He has been given the opportunity to move up through the Angels' minor league system, largely under the radar of national media. However, tonight Trout will get to see the bright lights of Major League Baseball.
His cards have been extremely hot on the secondary market over the last few months. Since 2009, Trout has had autograph cards in three Bowman-brand products, as well as sets from TriStar, In the Game and Donruss Elite Extra Edition. He also has relic cards from Topps Pro Debut. Over 90 Trout autographs have sold on eBay in the last couple of weeks. Look for many collectors to cash in this weekend to capitalize on his debut.
