Lou Brock to Sell Personal Memorabilia Collection Through Legendary Auctions in November

Lou Brock to Sell Personal Memorabilia Collection Through Legendary Auctions Later this Month.

St. Louis Cardinals legend Bob Gibson turned some heads when he auctioned off his personal baseball memorabilia this summer and took in over half a million dollars. Now, another all-time great from the same franchise is following his lead.

Hall of Fame outfielder Lou Brock will send his collection to the auction block in November through Legendary Auctions, the same company that oversaw the Gibson sale. Over 100 lots of Brock's awards, equipment and personal items will form the centerpiece of the auction house's offerings, with bidding to take place from the 9th through the 18th.

Among the highlights are Brock's 1967 World Series ring,  the 1974 game-worn jersey from the day he set the single-season stolen base record, the base he stole in 1977 to send him past Ty Cobb for the career stolen base record, and an original Leroy Neiman painting of Brock in action. The speedy left fielder said that he's looking forward to letting collectors enjoy the artifacts from his storied career, but he also made no bones about the fact that his old teammate's auction also helped persuade him to take this step.

"I saw how great Gibby's collection did with Legendary Auctions," Brock said in a press release. "My agent, Dick Zitzman, said a lot of complimentary things about the auction house. So it really was an easy decision to consign my collection with Doug [Allen, CEO] and Legendary Auctions, especially after meeting Doug. I am certain my collection is in good hands."

Brock's items may not reach the same lofty heights as Gibson's top lots - his 1968 NL MVP award brought in $120,000 alone - which was aided by the extra publicity it garnered by taking place at the same time the MLB All-Star Game was being held in St. Louis. But Brock was a popular and bankable star, and Allen expects his collection will still do well despite an economy that continues to sputter.

Bids on the Brock collection and the rest of the November auction will be accepted online and by phone. More information is available at the Legendary Auctions website, legendaryauctions.com.
