Jason Kipnis Demands Your Attention
During his short stay in the majors thus far, Jason Kipnis has forced opposing teams to take notice. So should collectors. Kipnis is currently hitting .295 with six home runs and a .358 on-base percentage. Kipnis, who throws right-handed and bats left-handed, was called up on July 22nd and is the only rookie in major league history to hit a home run in four consecutive games within two weeks of making their debut. However, it was his performance during the recent series in Boston that really caused collectors to take notice. While at Fenway for the four-game set, Kipnis hit .375 with an on-base percentage of .444. He also belted three home runs, helping the Tribe split the series.
The 24-year-old didn't make his MLB debut with lots of media hype, like many other star rookies. But the momentum is building as the infielder's production continues to impress. Kipnis has found a way to come up with timely hits and has been a major contributor for the Indians. Last night, the second baseman from Illinois went 5-5 at the plate, helping the Tribe defeat the Tigers 10-3.
Cleveland continues to surprise opponents and sits just two games behind Detroit in the American League Central. Keep an eye out for tonight's game where Kipnis will square off against Justin Verlander.
With the recent addition of Ubaldo Jimenez, it is clear that the Indians realize the time to win is now. Kipnis will have to continue to make an impact on the field in order for his team to reach the postseason. Collectors shouldn't wait until then to pick up his cards, though, as his stock is on the rise. It will surely go higher if Kipnis makes a postseason splash. Collectors should expect to spend $20-$50 on an autographed Kipnis card.
