2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball Variations Checklist and Gallery

2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball Variations Checklist and Gallery

Checklist
Mirroring the low-key nature of the product, the 2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball variations stick to the basics with different, typically playful, photos for select players in the set. However, the SSP cards are not easy pulls at roughly just two to three per case.

Similar to previous years, the final 2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball checklist did not include the complete list of variations. As a result, collectors must rely on other ways to know what to expect. We aim to clear that up for you with a full checklist and corresponding gallery for all the short print image variations.

Complicating things, it appears that codes on card backs are once again not an alternative option for identifying the 2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball Variations as the base and SSPs have the same digits. Nevertheless, the clear differences in the images does not make it too difficult if you know what you are looking for as you are opening packs.

The 2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball variation odds are officially 1:256 packs so these are fairly tough pulls. Even more difficult to pull are the Stadium Signatures inserts which showcase top players signing autographs. Adding to the confusion, they too have some impressive images and the front design is exactly the same as the base. However, these are not part of the variations and are easily distinguished based on the #SS prefix for the card number.

User Comments

  1. Why is the overview picture for Kris Bryant different than the gallery picture?

  2. As noted in the section, that card is part of the Stadium Signatures insert, not the Variations. It was causing confusion online, which is why it was included. I removed it.

  3. Why does Topps make some of their cards so hard to find? I can’t spend $100+ just to get 35 duplicates and only 3 inserts or so and no variation. Why can’t they make them cheaper for the casual collectors?

  4. Why do you not have the imag for david price?

  5. Because the only image I have seen is not useable for this guide.

  6. Is it just me, or are variations usually much, much better than the base cards?
Trey, when did topps first start making photo variations?

  7. It does seem that the much better card images are made into short prints these days. The first big variation that ushered in the concept was a 2007 Topps card for Derek Jeter that inserted George W. Bush and Mickey Mantle into the background. http://www.cardboardconnection.com/2007-topps-baseball-cards

  8. Alll those people who got master sets early got so so lucky.

  9. Do you think that there will be as many variations in series 2 and update?
If so, will they eventually come down in price?
    Thanks! ??

  10. I completed the entire base set with one box purchase for whatever that is worth.

  11. Why does Matt Carpenter’s variation have 3B while his base card has 1B?

  12. Dee Gordon is missing.

    SS-3

Picture has him signing a hat.

  13. That is the Stadium Signatures insert and not part of the main variations. You can tell because the numbering includes #SS instead of the regular base card number.

  14. What players have the 1 of 1 cards? My son got the Eric Hosmer today!
