2014 Topps Prime Football CardsBrand: Topps Prime
2014 Topps Prime Football is aimed at collectors who like action photography. It's also a mid-priced product that delivers a solid number of hits. Hobby boxes come with four total premium cards: an autographed relic, another autograph, a patch or prime relic and a multi-swatch relic.
The 2014 Topps Prime Football set has 150 cards, 100 veterans and 50 rookies. First-year players are inserted one per pack. Cards use a full-bleed design that puts an emphasis on action photos. Every rookie and 50 of the veterans have variations that offer a different photo. Rookies also have a handful of parallels: Copper (#/350), Gold (#/250), Copper Rainbow (#/99), Silver Rainbow (#/50) and Gold Rainbow (1/1).
Leading the hits once again are the multi-tiered Prime autographed relics. Starting at the top end, Prime I (#/10) are book cards that come with six swatches (glove, wristband, football, patch and two jersey pieces). Prime II (#/15) cards are also done as book cards. These have five relic pieces to go with the signature. Prime III (#/15) book cards come with three pieces of memorabilia. Prime IV (#/5) are autographed book cards that have just one relic swatch. However, it's in the form of a jumbo patch. Prime V cards are the most common. These numbered cards have four swatches. Base versions have one patch.
Various levels of hobby-exclusive Prime V parallels have different relic combinations. These parallels include Copper (#/50), Gold (#/25), Copper Rainbow (#/15), Silver Rainbow (#/10) and Gold Rainbow (1/1).
Basic autographs feature both rookies and veterans. These cards use the same design as the base set and stickers for the signatures. Rookie Autograph parallels include Copper (#/99), Gold (#/75), Copper Rainbow (#/50), Silver Rainbow (#/25) and Gold Rainbow (1/1). Veterans follow a similar parallel pattern but with much lower quantities: Copper (#/25), Gold (#/15), Copper Rainbow (#/10), Silver Rainbow (#/5) and Gold Rainbow (1/1).
The one-per-box multi-relic cards feature anywhere from two to four swatches. All are numbered. Dual Relics spotlight rookies and come with two player-worn jersey pieces. Quad Relics take a similar rookie approach, only with four swatches. Both have Copper (#/99), Gold (#/75), Copper Rainbow (#/50), Silver Rainbow (#/25) and Gold Rainbow (1/1) parallels.
Dual Combo Relics and Quad Combo Relics feature swatches from multiple players. Hobby-only patch parallels include Copper Rainbow (#/25), Silver Rainbow (#/10) and Gold Rainbow (1/1).
The final hobby box hit is a numbered Prime Patch card that comes from a player-worn rookie jersey. These also have Copper Rainbow (#/25), Silver Rainbow (#/10) and Gold Rainbow (1/1) parallels.
2014 Topps Prime Football is capped off with three basic insert sets. Primetimers (1:2 packs) returns with more action shots of top veterans. Primed Rookies (1:5 packs) takes a similar approach for key 2014 rookies. Prime Performers (1:10 packs) looks back on some of the key moments for 2013 rookies.
