2014-15 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey marks 25 years since the card maker released their first puck set. A lot has changed since then, but the release follows an overall similar pattern as it has in the past few years. Hobby boxes promise a pair of game-used jersey cards and six Young Guns rookie cards.

The 2014-15 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey base set has 200 cards. This does not include the Young Guns portion of the set. Traditionally some of the most popular non-autographed rookie cards of the year, 1:4 packs have a Young Guns card. Parallels stay the course from the past few years with Exclusives (#/100) and High Gloss Spectrum (#/10).

UD Canvas cards return. The set includes 30 Young Guns (1:48 packs). The cards resemble a partial parallel, however they use different images and a textured card stock.

Flagship Upper Deck Hockey may be largely about building sets, but there are still some hits to be found. The majority are UD Game Jersey cards. The checklist includes both short prints and Patch parallels (#/15).

A Piece of History is back with memorabilia sets honoring the 500 Goals Club. New to 2014-15 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey are Piece of History 1,000 Point Club cards. Among them are rare autographed parallels.

Collectors can find a handful of die-cut acetate insert sets: Clear Cut Captains (#/100), Stoppers (#/100), Foundations (#/25) and League Leaders (#/10).

In celebration of the debut 1990-91 Upper Deck Hockey set, 2014-15 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey has stamped buybacks of all 400 original cards. These are appropriately numbered to 25.

Exclusive to retail tins are over-sized Winter Classic inserts.

User Reviews

  1. Oh, not the Shining Star inserts again. The least they could’ve done was serial number the Rainbow’s. The vertical jerseys are a nice switch. Now, other than Kuz & Tera, who’s gonna fill out the YG’s? Needless to say, a big drop-off from the double-rookie YG class of 2013/14. Oh well, time will tell and now we wait for mid-November.

  2. UD: so utterly predictable. Carbon-copy products one again. At least the competition will push them to be better. Oh, wait. There is no competition.

  3. Panini was no competition. They are gone the way of the Dodo bird. All their products were like row housing. This looks good, probably good enough to keep thousands of boxes of old Panini product rotting on the shelves whilst cases of this are being opened.

  4. nothing i have seen from Upper Deck makes me want to rush out and buy any new 14/15 products. nothing original and no new wrinkles…without panini this could be a real boring year.
