It's good versus evil in 2013 Rittenhouse Star Trek: The Next Generation Heroes and Villains. Much like the similarly themed Original Series release, Heroes and Villains goes deep into the show's characters and often complex conflicts. Although the set has several inserts, the chase is led by the promise of four autographs per box.
The 2013 Rittenhouse Star Trek: The Next Generation Heroes and Villains base set has 100 cards. It also has a parallel version that's inserted 1:3 packs.
More than 40 actors have autographs in the release. Among the main cast members signing for the set are Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean Luc Picard), Michael Dorn (Worf), Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher) and Levar Burton (Geordi LaForge). The list also has several notable guest stars. They're led by Paul Sorvino, who appears on his first autographed trading card. Also signing is Terry O'Quinn, best known as John Locke on LOST.
2013 Rittenhouse Star Trek: The Next Generation Heroes and Villains has five basic chase sets as well. Undercover Heroes (14 cards) is the most common, falling 1:6 packs. Love is in the air with Romance cards. With a 33-card checklist, putting a set together is going to be somewhat of a challenge despite being inserted 1:8 packs. Showcasing some slick upgrades is TNG Remastered (27 cards, 1:8 packs). The toughest inserts are the 25th Anniversary Poster Cards (five cards, 1:48 packs) and Relic Cards (six cards, 1:96 packs).
Every case has one of two different case toppers, one focusing on the show's heroes and the other on the antagonists. Those ordering three cases get a Quotable TNG Denise Crosby autograph. The set's six-case incentive is a Brent Spiner as Dr. Soong autographed relic card. An archive box featuring every pack-inserted card in the release is rewarded to those taking 18 cases.
