1915 Cracker Jack Baseball Cards

For the second straight year, Cracker Jack issued a set of cards to be included inside boxes of their familiar product. This time, however, they expanded the set to 176 cards and offered compete sets for sale through their company. They also designed a special album to display a collection of the cards as well.

The cards are mostly similar to the ones in the 1914 set. A color drawing of a player appears on the front, below the words Cracker Jack Ball Players. A vivid red background also appears on the card. The player's name, city and league affiliation appear within the lower border of the card. One unique feature is the way white colors are simply the paper color, which let the picture bleed into the border. Cards that feature a different shade of white can be easily identified as fakes. Backs feature a card number, biography of the player pictured, and an advertisement stating that there are 176 cards in the complete set.

There are a couple of differences between 1914 cards, as well. The most obvious difference on the back is the mention of 176 cards, but the backs are printed upside down compared to the way the '14 cards were oriented. This allowed customers who mounted them into the album using hinges to flip the cards over to read them.

While most of the players from cards #1-144 remained the same from 1914, some were updated to reflect any team (or league) changes. Two players (Christy Mathewson and Darrell Pratt) had their images changed. Five players from 1914 were dropped from the set because they left the major leagues, and were replaced by new players. As for the final 32 cards (#145-176), they were comprised of players who didn't appear in the 1914 set.

Since Cracker Jack cards from 1915 were available directly from the company, many more can be found in higher grades. As a result, 1915 cards are a little less valuable than their 1914 counterparts.
